Dr Bernard P. Chang serves as Associate Dean of Faculty Health & Research Career Development and Vice Chair of Research at Columbia University’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he holds the Tushar Shah & Sara Zion Endowed Chair in Emergency Medicine. A board-certified emergency physician and Harvard-trained research psychologist (MD Stanford, PhD Harvard; residency at Mass General Brigham), Dr Chang explores the mind-body interface—from neurological emergencies such as stroke to the psychological and cardiovascular well-being of clinicians. Having been ranked among the ten highest-funded NIH investigators in Emergency Medicine, he has secured multiple R01 awards, published widely on acute-care outcomes and clinician health, and earned honors including the Lamport Prize and SAEM Established Investigator Award. Fluent in six languages and once a professional sailboat captain, Dr Chang pairs a global outlook with a deep commitment to mentoring the next generation of physician-scientists and advancing the science of digital health.
